Australia officially a member of the Asian Football Confederation

Australia officially became a member of the Asian Football Confederation as of midnight on New Year's Eve. As a result of this move, Australian Soccer will benefit from wider exposure and tougher matches in the Asian league, which could bring in higher revenues.

This is great for the Socceroos, who will have a good chance of qualifying in 2010, leaving the Oceania Football Confederation - the smallest of FIFA's six confederations and the only one without a guaranteed direct entry to the World Cup.
